Stunning coastal home in Raglan, Waikato—a contemporary masterpiece nestled in the rugged beauty of rural Raglan. Designed by Kris Wilson and built by Excelsior Residential Limited, this house captures the essence of modern living while harmonizing with its natural surroundings.
Ethical Materials and Understated Elegance
Our vision was clear: an understated, sustainable residence that seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor spaces. We chose ethical materials, including quarter-sawn cedar and vertical long-run COLORSTEEL® cladding. These choices not only withstand coastal conditions but also enhance the home’s aesthetic.
Sun, Views, and Connection
The sun and views were paramount. Expansive windows frame vistas of native trees and Mount Karioi. The sleek black kitchen and scullery flow seamlessly to the outdoors, creating a perfect harmony. Polished concrete floors connect the interior to the exterior, emphasizing the indoor-outdoor lifestyle.
Architectural Highlights
- Covered Outdoor Entertaining Space: A large soffit overhang, finished in sustainable tongue and groove cedar, provides an ideal spot to enjoy sunsets.
- Lockwood Aesthetic: Tongue and groove pine ceilings pay homage to timeless design.
- Panoramic Lounge Window: A three-tonne feature, engineered for structural integrity, offers breathtaking views.
Construction Challenges
The sloping site demanded a complex network of retaining walls, completed in three stages. Peter Brooky and his team executed the design with precision, resulting in a home that exceeded our wildest dreams.
Picture Perfect Sanctuary
Rose and Berry couldn’t be happier. Their dream home is everything they imagined and hoped for—a picture-perfect retreat where coastal living meets contemporary elegance.
